Yes, we’re back! In case you forgot you signed up for the daily love letter that hasn’t been so daily. I know. This is all still in the experimental stage. Thank you for your patience. We’re going to be more consistent in 2018!
Let me reiterate my purpose with these. I want to give you a little boost of inspiration each day to choose the way of love. More than ever we need a revolution of people choosing the way of love every day. It’’s too easy to give up hope and become cynical. It’s easy to match hate with more hate. Change happens when that cycle stops.
There is an old prayer written in French in 1912 in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi called the Peace Prayer of St. Francis. It widely circulated all around the world between the two world wars, eventually appearing in English in 1936. It’s encouraged so many people since its origin, including me. It pretty much puts my mission and vision into words, particularly the line “where there is hatred, let me sow love.” That’s what I’m striving for in my life, and that’s my hope for you all this year. Wherever we are, when they bring hate we bring love. That’s what sets us apart.
Peace Prayer of Saint Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Sign up to get the new daily love letter to you every morning! We’re just getting started.
